You all know that my blog is all about blogging and monetizing the blog but now after writing much about blogging, I feel like writing some of my next posts on SEO and SEO copywriting advice.

I don?t need to say that SEO is an inseparable part of blogging and thus now I will try to share some of the SEO tips and techniques which I am using.

I know that most of my readers are established bloggers and are well aware of the SEO tips but still I want to share my experiences and tips.

I am enlisting here 15 of my best tips on how to write killer SEO friendly content for your blog. I decided to write on this topic because SEO copywriting plays a very important role in bringing high traffic to your website.

First let me tell you what SEO copywriting is! It is an art of writing a good article based on search engine optimization.

However there are many professional SEO Copywriters but trust me, they charge very high.

I don?t know about you all but I can?t afford them. So I do it for myself and I believe that after reading my tips mentioned below you will also be able to write your own SEO copywrite content and bring huge traffic in your website.

1. Give Your Best At Writing -

I have mentioned this tip earlier also in many of my blog posts like here and the reason behind is that content is king for any blog. Good and original content is one of the major requisites to run a blog successfully.

So this has to be on top of the list obviously. The entire search engines including Google love the good and original content. Not just the search engines but the readers also love to read good content and you know that when users like some content get link to it and Google love such inbound links.

Having good content and high quality inbound links gives your blog high page rank and that is what we all are working for. Right?

Now, if you ask me how to write a good content, the only tip which I follow is to use most appropriate and relevant content in my blog post.

You know what? People usually try focusing on a single keyword and use it everywhere in the blog post. I know you by using the keywords many times, you just want to attract Google Crawlers but sadly Google sees it differently.

Google actually finds it a shallow article with keyword stuffing and will bring it down the search pages. On the other hand if you use different but relevant words in your post, Google finds it authoritative, informative and useful for readers.

So what I do is using the synonyms of my target keywords in my post.

2. Use Catchy Headlines -

It is the headline which draws the attention of the reader. Make sure that the headlines are short and snappy. Using keyword in headlines is again a good idea to bring Google to your blog page. I spend several hours to choose a powerful headline for my blog posts.

3. H1 Is Important In SEO Copywriting-

H1 tag in title is very important for your content and plays a major role in attracting the Google Crawlers. Make sure that the words used in your title are very well used in your content as well.

Do you know what the role of H1 tag is? It actually provides a high degree emphasis on your selected keyword. Some of the bloggers usually overlook the importance of H1 tag but let me tell you that using H1 tag is one of the golden SEO copywriting advice.

Not only H1, but H2 and H3 tags are also important to get good place in Google search results. Trust me Google respects the hierarchical article the most.

4. Maintain Keyword Density -

Keywords are what we write upon and so the targeted keyword should be placed well in your content. Best placements include, beginning of the post, in main paragraphs and in the end.

Do not make a mistake of stuffing the keywords unnecessarily in the article. Google is smart enough to trash it from its search results.

5. Use Ctrl+U, Ctrl+I And Ctrl+B -

It is very important to emphasize the keywords in the article. It not just helps the Google to track your post but also help the readers to understand what your article is about.

Using underline, bold and italic are the best ways to emphasize the keywords.

You know what all the words that you underline bold and italic are considered as keywords by Google crawlers, so you better use these shortcuts carefully.

6. Use Meta tags -

Google love to see same Title and Description, however repeated keywords may also annoy Google. I want to say that you should use the title?s keywords in both Description and Title but don?t repeat the keywords unnecessarily or else Google will take it as spam.

When I search for something on Google, I always prefer reading the posts having bullets or numbers. I don?t know why but such posts seem to be easily understandable.

Same is the thing with Google; I guess Google is very much like me as it also loves the posts having bullets or numbers included.

8. File Names -

Whichever files you are using in your post must contain the keywords. Understood?

What I mean is that when you add some file in your post, like an image file, make sure that the file name has the keywords in it. You know how it will help you

When you use keywords in the file name, all the URLs of your posts will contain a keyword which will definitely give you SEO benefit.

Correct me if I am wrong.

9. Don?t Forget To Crosslink Your Articles -

It is a very good idea to increase the page views considerably but remember not to interlink irrelevant content. You should cross link the pages only when the anchor text is purely relevant to the page you are linking it to.

Along with increasing the page views it also help Google to know what your other pages are about.

But again fact is that Relevancy matters a lot. Never try to fool Google by linking irrelevant blog pages. It is proven fact that Google ranks the pages with outbound links higher than those having no outbound links.

One very important point ? Don?t ever link a penalized page with your website or else your page will also be penalized.

11. Do You Know About Content-To-Code Ratio -

Content-to-code is ratio between the amount of code and amount of text. It is also termed as signal-to-noise ratio. Not much people know about it but it is important.

Your web pages and posts must have a high content-to-code ratio that means text in your post must be more than the HTML code.

You can check it from the View Page Source. Google love more content and less HTML.

12. Avoid Using Flash -

I never understand why people use Flash in their websites when it is the biggest enemy of SEO. You know what! I never like to visit sites having Flash; it is a real pain for waiting the Flash slide to open. It irritates users and drive them to next search result immediately.

I don?t know whether you know or not but the data embedded in a Flash file is never indexed and thus is not visible in the search engine pages.

13. Avoid frames

Frames Suck!!!!

This is what I feel. Actually the frames breaks the navigation of your website and let me tell you that if you are using frames in your website, Google will index only page having frame, I mean the home page.

14. Plurals And Synonyms Work -

This is my personal tip as I do this. Using plurals and synonyms of keywords make your article relevant search queries done with phrases relevant to your keyword. This way your post will qualify for more search terms and will obviously bring more visits and visitors.

Using plurals brings you the visitors searching both singular and plurals but singular words will not bring people searching for plurals.

15. Embed Your Links -

Don?t leave your links secluded, embed it with correct text. Google ignores the isolated links. But again relevancy is important.

Comcast agrees to carry new beIN Sport network

NEW YORK (AP) - The new beIN Sport network has reached an agreement with Comcast Corp. to be carried on its Xfinity TV.

Owned by the Al-Jazeera Sport Media Network, beIN Sport will be carried in English on the Xfinity TV Sports Entertainment Package and in Spanish on the Xfinity TV MultiLatino Package. It also will be available to Comcast customers online and some content will be shown on Comcast's Xfinity On Demand.

Launched last week, beIN Sport initially was carried only by DirecTV and the DISH Network, which combine with Comcast to create a total potential universe of 54 million homes. However, the number of households receiving the tier beIN is on is only a fraction of that.

Of the 34 million homes that receive DirecTV and DISH, about 8 million get the tier showing beIN. Network spokesman Mike Kilroy said the figure for Comcast was not available.

The new network has rights to Spain's La Liga, Italy's Serie A, France's Ligue 1 and England's second-tier League Championship. It also has rights to U.S. road qualifiers in World Cup qualifying, except for the potential game at Mexico in next year's regional finals.

Primate of the opera: What soprano singing apes on helium reveal about the human voice

ScienceDaily (Aug. 20, 2012) ? Have you ever heard an opera singing ape? Researchers in Japan have discovered that singing gibbons use the same vocal techniques as professional soprano singers. The study, published in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology, explains how recording gibbons singing under the influence of helium gas reveals a physiological similarity to human voices.

The research was led by Dr Takeshi Nishimura from the Primate Research Institute at Kyoto University, Japan. His team studied the singing of a white-handed gibbon (Hylobates lar) at Fukuchiyama City Zoo, in northern Kyoto.

A gibbon's song is acoustically unique among primates, with a loud melody which can be heard over two miles away. In the wild gibbons use their songs to communicate with neighboring pairs, strangers and potential mates through impenetrable jungle where visibility is poor.

"The complexity of human speech is unique among primates as it requires varied soft sounds made by the rapid movements of vocal tracts," said Dr Nishimura. "Our speech was thought to have evolved through specific modifications in our vocal anatomy. However, we've shown how the gibbons' distinctive song uses the same vocal mechanics as soprano singers, revealing a fundamental similarity with humans."

To explore these similarities the team conducted the first acoustic investigation on non-human primates using helium gas. The gas is famous for making human voices appear high pitched by shifting the resonance frequencies of the vocal tract upwards. The gas is useful for studying animal vocal mechanisms as it increases sound velocity and resonance frequencies.

The team recorded 20 gibbon calls in normal air atmosphere, before recording 37 calls in a helium-enriched atmosphere. The resulting sounds, which are available as audio files, reveal how gibbons can consciously manipulate their vocal cords and tract to make their distinctive sound.

"The lowest frequency of harmonics is amplified in a gibbon's song when performed in normal air," said Nishimura. "However, in a helium-enriched atmosphere the tuning of the vocal cord vibration and the resonance of the vocal tract are altered as the gas causes an upward shift of the resonance frequencies."

This supports the theory that, as with humans, there is independence between the origin of the sound and the vocal tools used to manipulate it.

This shows that gibbons use the same process for producing speech as humans, whereby acoustic sound originates from the larynx and is controlled by a filter, determined by the shape of the supralaryngeal vocal tract. This manipulation forms speech and is known as the 'source-filter' process of speech production.

Singing gibbons always, and with minimal effort, adopt the complex vocal techniques which are only mastered in humans by professional soprano singers. This discovery suggests the development of complex vocal abilities in humans was not due to unique evolutionary modifications. Instead it shows that humans share the biological fundamentals of vocalization with other primates, but in speech have simply acquired another of its most sophisticated forms.

"This is the first evidence that gibbons always sing using soprano techniques, a difficult vocalization ability for humans which is only mastered by professional opera singers," concluded Nishimura. "This gives us a new appreciation of the evolution of speech in gibbons while revealing that the physiological foundation in human speech is not so unique."

Mars Rover Curiosity Takes 1st Martian Test Drive, Sees Tracks (Photos)

NASA's Mars rover Curiosity took its first halting steps on the Red Planet today (Aug. 22), snapping photos of its tracks to commemorate the test drive milestone.

The 1-ton Curiosity rover was slated to move about 10 feet (3 meters) forward, turn to the right 90 degrees and then back up several feet, mission managers said yesterday. And based on pictures that came down from the six-wheeled robot today, that brief maneuver ? or something like it ? appears to have happened.

The black-and-white photos, taken by Curiosity's navigation cameras, clearly show its tracks on the Martian surface.

A spokesman at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., which manages Curiosity's mission, declined to discuss the drive, explaining that the rover team would elaborate during a press conference today at 2:30 p.m. EDT (1830 GMT). [More photos of Curiosity's 1st drive on Mars]

Curiosity touched down inside Mars' huge Gale Crater on the night of Aug. 5. Its two-year mission, officially known as the Mars Science Laboratory (MSL), aims to determine if the Red Planet could ever have supported microbial life.

Since Curiosity hit the red dirt, the MSL team has been systematically vetting the $2.5 billion rover and its 10 science instruments, making sure everything is in good working condition for surface operations. Today's short drive ? and a Monday (Aug. 20) test of Curiosity's steering abilities ? are part of this checkout process.

Everything has gone well so far, team members have said, though Curiosity's weather station is not working perfectly. Wind sensors on one of the instrument's two booms have been damaged, perhaps by rocks deposited on Curiosity's deck during or shortly after landing.

But the other boom's sensors are working fine, so the impact should be limited to some slight ambiguity regarding wind direction, researchers have said.

If everything continues to check out, Curiosity could head toward its first major science target ? a spot 1,300 feet (400 m) away called Glenelg ? as early as this weekend, mission managers have said. Three different types of terrain come together at Glenelg, making it a one-stop shop for lots of science investigations.

But Curiosity's ultimate destination is the base of Mount Sharp, the 3.4-mile-high (5.5-kilometer) mountain rising from the center of Gale Crater. Mars-orbiting spacecraft have spotted evidence of clays and sulfates in Mount Sharp's foothills, suggesting the area was exposed to liquid water long ago.

While Curiosity is getting ready to roll, it won't exactly speed through its Martian environs. The rover will likely spend a month or more journeying to Glenelg, researchers have said, and then remain there for a while, studying the site's rocks and soil.

Curiosity may be ready to turn its wheels toward the interesting deposits in Mount Sharp's foothills, which are about 5 miles (8 km) away as the crow flies, toward the end of the year, scientists have said.

The Senate campaign committee has revoked the $5 million it designated for Representative Akin, and key fundraising events have been canceled. Republican operators like Karl Rove have withdrawn support from Akin?s campaign.

So who will stick with him?

In a bid to steer his campaign back on course, Akin has begun appealing to social conservatives, religious pro-family groups, and high-profile politicos (even if publicly, they?re steering clear of him right now).

A sign that his appeals could work: The Boone County Republican Central Committee, which is representative of Missouri?s more-moderate demographics, declined on Tuesday night to call for Akin to step down.

Also, for now at least, polls show him still ahead of the embattled incumbent in the race ? Sen. Claire McCaskill, a ?blue dog? Democrat who earned the nickname ?Obama-Claire? after backing national health-care reform.

How Missourians are reacting ?is sort of hard to know, because the harsh glare of the national spotlight has made it difficult to see what?s happening locally,? says Marvin Overby, a political science professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia. ?But the fact is, time has a healing effect, and it?s hard to imagine hard-bitten, hard-nosed Republican operatives [staying] angry at Akin if it looks like he could still win.?

Professor Overby adds, ?He?s got this very rabid base of supporters who are going to turn out for him come hell or flash floods.?

At least right now, this Senate seat is arguably the most important one in America. Who wins it could determine which party has control of the Senate in January.

Akin has apologized several times for insinuating that women usually don?t get pregnant from ?legitimate rape,? a statement that was taken by many Americans to be as much about his views on women and sex as on abortion.

The remarks have been political gold for Senator McCaskill, who has sometimes struggled to connect with her constituents. The dust-up should help her raise money and could pad an already formidable lead in fundraising over Akin.

For the Akin camp, the big question, for the moment at least, is whether his campaign will be able to raise enough cash to fight a defensive TV ad war in the high-dollar Kansas City and St. Louis media markets.

Bill Hillsman, a veteran campaign consultant in Minneapolis, sees some fundraising potential for Akin.

His decision to stay ?has less to do with social conservatives in Missouri and more to do with a calculation that national money will come back to him,? he says. ?If the Republicans are stuck with him, they?re not going to abandon him, because it?s Missouri.?

But Akin might not be dependent on national money, Overby says. ?You ... have to remember he was outspent 5 to 1 in the primaries, so he?s not as reliant on big campaign donations as? an average candidate, he says.

But Akin?s appeals to conservatives could run aground if another brewing development ? GOP kingmaker Sarah Palin agitating for a possible third-party ballot challenge ? comes to fruition.

?If this thing is going to be thrown into a jump-ball situation [between two damaged candidates], if they could get somebody on the ballot running as an alternative, [that candidate] could have a serious chance of winning with not even that much money,? Mr. Hillsman says.

Depending on how polls and fundraising pan out in the next few weeks, Akin could still drop out of the race. According to Missouri law, he could withdraw as late as Sept. 25 by petitioning a state court. But that petition could be challenged by Missouri?s secretary of State, and a court case could dredge up the controversy just over a month before the election.

Despite the candidate?s defiance, that option remains open, political analysts say.

Since launching in 2007, Indian music streaming service Dhingana has focused less on monetization and more on building its product and its audience, according to co-founder and COO Swapnil Shinde. That focus has paid off in licensing deals with more than 500 music labels and Bollywood production houses, as well as an audience of 11 million monthly active users. So now the company is ready to make money. Specifically, Dhingana is launching its advertising platform. US reiterates Assad should step down

The United States reiterated Monday that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad should step down after a row over comments by newly appointed UN peace envoy Lakhdar Brahimi.

"We don't think there's going to be peace in Syria until Assad steps down and the bloodshed ends. We will be clear with special envoy Brahimi about our views on this," State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland told reporters.

But Nuland renewed US support for the veteran Algerian diplomat, saying that the United States has worked well with him in the past.

"This is an extremely difficult job and we would welcome any support that he can bring to the international community's efforts to get back" to a plan on ending the violence and political transition, she said.

In an interview with Reuters news agency, Brahimi -- named on Friday to replace Kofi Annan who quit -- was reported to have said it was too early for him to follow his predecessor in saying Assad must quit.

The opposition Syrian National Council said it was "shocked and dismayed" by the remarks.

Brahimi later clarified his comments, saying that he was not judging a resignation by Assad to be premature but rather: "What I have said is that it's early for me to say anything related to the content of this issue."

Assad's government also criticized Brahimi, with the foreign ministry on Monday denying his remarks that Syria was in civil war and saying that such a view "is found only in the head of conspirators."

Brahimi, 78, was the UN envoy in Afghanistan before and after the September 11, 2001 attacks, and in Iraq after the 2003 invasion.

Akin cancels interview, leaving CNN with an empty chair

Facing a firestorm of criticism over his comments about "legitimate rape," Missouri Rep. Todd Akin canceled a scheduled interview with CNN's Piers Morgan on Monday. And in what's becoming something of a trend on cable news, Morgan opened his primetime show with a shot of Akin's empty chair, calling the embattled Republican Senate candidate a "gutless little twerp" for cancelling the sit-down.

"Congressman, you have an open invitation to join me in that chair whenever you feel up to it," Morgan said. "Because if you don't keep your promise to appear on the show, then you are, what we would call in Britain, a gutless little twerp."

The stunt was almost immediately parodied on Twitter, as the @AkinEmptyChair account was created within minutes of the broadcast.

It's not the first time a Republican politician has dodged Morgan. Delaware Republican Christine O'Donnell walked out of a 2011 interview with Morgan after he asked about her views on gay marriage. O'Donnell later called Morgan's line of questioning "borderline creepy."

It's also not the first time the empty interview chair has been used on cable news for dramatic effect. In March, Lawrence O'Donnell (no relation to Christine) grilled an empty chair on MSNBC's "Last Word" when a lawyer for accused Trayvon Martin shooter George Zimmerman abruptly canceled an appearance.

The same week, MSNBC producers went with the empty-chair shot when it appeared that the National Organization for Marriage's Maggie Gallagher failed to show up for a daytime news segment.

It turned out that Gallagher was sent to the wrong studio by MSNBC's own booking department; anchor Thomas Roberts later apologized.

Earlier Monday, Buzzfeed reported that Akin was planning to withdraw his Senate candidacy on Tuesday. A senior Republican official cautioned that Akin may still change his mind, however, and Smith cited another source who throws cold water on the speculation. Meanwhile, conservative blogger Erick Erickson and former Mitt Romney foreign policy adviser Richard Grenell both wrote on Twitter that Akin would resign.

In an interview on Mike Huckabee's radio show, Akin apologized for comments he made on Sunday, when he said that victims of "legitimate rape" do not need access to legal abortions because they cannot biologically become pregnant.

But Akin also told Huckabee he wouldn't drop out of the race. "I'm not a quitter," he said.

Jury convicts manager who testified at his own insider trial

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A California hedge fund manager who testified in his own defense at his insider trading trial, was convicted on Monday of securities fraud and conspiracy charges by a federal jury.

Doug Whitman, the 54-year-old founder of Whitman Capital, is the latest to be convicted or plead guilty among dozens of money managers, traders, consultants and lawyers charged since 2009 in a U.S. crackdown on insider trading.

He was the first among several insider trading trial defendants to gamble on taking the witness stand in the hope of winning an acquittal.

The Manhattan federal court jury reached its verdict after less than one full day of deliberations, having received the case late on Friday afternoon.

Prosecutors charged Whitman with four counts of conspiracy and securities fraud in illegally using inside sources to get advance information on the financial performance of Google Inc, Polycom Inc and Marvell Technology Group Ltd between 2006 and 2009.

"Douglas Whitman now joins the grim procession of convicted Wall Street professionals who decided that the rules don't apply to them," Manhattan U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement. "The rules do apply."

Three of Whitman's former friends and associates testified against him at the trial, which began on July 31 before U.S. District Judge Jed Rakoff.

The government's evidence also included telephone conversations secretly recorded by the FBI.

Whitman faces a maximum 25 years in prison at his December 20 sentencing.

Dressed in a dark blue suit, Whitman appeared shaken after the verdict was read and quickly exited the courtroom as soon as the 15-minute proceeding ended.

Bill McBride, a spokesman for Whitman and his lawyers, declined to comment on the verdict.

The case is USA v Doug Whitman in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, No. 12-125.

Activists get 2 years for anti-Putin church stunt

MOSCOW ? Three punk rock-style activists who briefly took over a cathedral in a raucous prayer for deliverance from Vladimir Putin were sentenced to two years in prison for hooliganism on Friday, a decision that drew protests around the world as it highlighted the Russian president?s intensifying crackdown on dissent.

Protesters from Moscow to New York and musicians including Madonna and Paul McCartney condemned the prosecution of the three women, members of a band called Pussy Riot. Several countries, including the U.S., and even some Kremlin loyalists decried the verdict.

Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, 22, Maria Alekhina, 24, and Yekaterina Samutsevich, 30, were arrested in March after performing a ?punk prayer? in Christ the Savior Cathedral, dancing and high-kicking as they called on the Virgin Mary to save Russia from Putin, who was elected to a third term as Russia?s president two weeks later.

Judge Marina Syrova ruled Friday that the band members had ?committed hooliganism driven by religious hatred.? She rejected the women?s arguments that they were protesting the Russian Orthodox Church?s support for Putin and didn?t intend to offend religious believers.

Putin himself had said the band members shouldn?t be judged too harshly, creating expectations that they could be sentenced to time served and freed in the courtroom. This, however, would have left the impression that Putin had bowed to public pressure, something he has resisted throughout his 12 years in power.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin couldn?t intervene in the judicial process and refused to comment on the sentence.

When the sentence was announced, shouts of ?down with the police state? rose from a crowd of hundreds of Pussy Riot supporters outside the courtroom. More than 50 people were detained, including former world chess champion Garry Kasparov, who said police beat him.

Protesters donned the colorful balaclavas that have become a symbol of the band among protestors, though no single protest outside Moscow drew more than a few hundred people.

In Kiev, Ukraine, four women, one of whom was topless, used a chainsaw to cut down a cross. About 40 protesters gathered in New York held up banners that read: ?We are all hooligans.?

The crowd in Moscow included many of the prominent writers, journalists and opposition partisans who spearheaded the mass protests that shook the city over the winter and spring. Pussy Riot was an obscure band of activists for much of that time, and some fellow opponents of Putin disapproved of their tactics, but they rallied to the group?s defense after the March arrests.

For three hours as the judge read the verdict, the defendants stood in handcuffs in a glass cage in the courtroom, the same one where oil tycoon Mikhail Khodorkovsky, another Putin opponent, was convicted two years ago.

The three women smiled sadly as the judge recounted testimony of prosecution witnesses accusing them of sacrilege and ?devilish dances? in the church and said that their feminist views made them hate the Orthodox religion.

Tolokonnikova laughed out loud when the judge read the testimony of a psychologist who said that her ?active stance on social issues? was an anomaly.

The three women remained calm and kept smiling after the judge announced the sentence. Someone in the courtroom shouted ?Shame!? They waved at relatives from behind the glass.

The charges carried a maximum penalty of seven years in prison, though prosecutors had asked for a three-year sentence.

Popular Russian author Boris Akunin, a supporter of Pussy Riot who was outside the courthouse, said Putin ?has doomed himself to another year and a half of international shame and humiliation.?

?The whole thing is bad because it?s yet another step toward the escalation of tensions within society. And the government is absolutely to blame,? he said.

Defense lawyers said they would appeal but had little hope that the verdict would be overturned. ?This verdict is the result of a political decision in the Kremlin, made by Vladimir Putin,? said Mark Feygin.

He said the women would not ask for a pardon from Putin. ?They will not beg and humiliate themselves before such a bastard,? he said.

Another sign of the defendants? resolve came in a new song the band released Friday on the Internet: ?Putin Is Lighting the Fires of Revolution.?

Samutsevich?s father said he had met with his daughter before the court session and she was prepared for a prison sentence. ?We tried to comfort her,? said Stanislav Samutsevich.

Amnesty International, which has called the women prisoners of conscience, said the court ruling ?shows that the Russian authorities will stop at no end to suppress dissent and stifle civil society.?

Governments including the United States, Britain, France and Germany denounced the sentences as disproportionate.

President Barack Obama was disappointed by the decision, White House spokesman Josh Earnest said. ?While we understand the group?s behavior was offensive to some, we have serious concerns about the way that these young women have been treated by the Russian judicial system,? he said.

Further controversy was stirred up by the detention of Kasparov, now one of Putin?s fiercest critics. He said he was beaten by the police who detained him, but police claimed that he bit an officer?s finger. After his release, Kasparov tweeted that he was going to an emergency room ?to check my injuries and to prove that I am not drunk and haven?t bitten anyone.?

The Pussy Riot case has helped energize the opposition. Protest leader Alexei Navalny called the verdict a ?cynical mockery of justice? and said the opposition would step up its protests.

Even some Kremlin loyalists strongly criticized the verdict. Former Finance Minister Alexei Kudrin said it has dealt ?yet another blow to the court system and citizens? trust in it.?

Mikhail Fedotov, the head of a presidential advisory council on human rights, voiced hope that the sentence will be repealed or at least softened. Mikhail Barshchevsky, a lawyer who represents the Cabinet in high courts, said that the verdict had no basis in Russian criminal law.

The Pussy Riot case has underlined the vast influence of the Russian Orthodox Church. Test flight of aircraft designed to reach Mach 6 fails

A closely watched test flight of an experimental aircraft designed to travel up to 3,600 mph ended in disappointment when a part failed, causing the unmanned cruiser to plummet into the Pacific Ocean, the Air Force revealed.

The X-51A WaveRider was launched in the Point Mugu Naval Air Test Range over the Pacific in a key test Tuesday intended to fine-tune its hypersonic scramjet engine.

The aircraft, built and tested in Southern California, was designed to hit Mach 6, or six times the speed of sound, and fly for five minutes. But that didn't happen. The engine never even roared into action.

About 15 seconds into the flight, a problem was detected in one of the WaveRider's control fins ? a relatively small part of the aircraft ? and the cruiser was not able to maintain control and was lost.

"It is unfortunate that a problem with this subsystem caused a termination before we could light the scramjet engine," Charlie Brink, program manager for the Air Force Research Laboratory, said in a statement Wednesday. "All our data showed we had created the right conditions for engine ignition, and we were very hopeful to meet our test objectives."

This is the third time the WaveRider has flown. Not one flight has gone the distance.

Engineers thought they were on the right track with the WaveRider program in May 2010 when the WaveRider made its first flight. The WaveRider sped west for about 2 minutes, 23 seconds ? less than half its scheduled five-minute flight ? at 3,500 mph before plunging into the ocean as planned.

But in a June 2011 flight, a lapse in airflow to the jet engine caused a premature shutdown.

In the test Tuesday, a B-52 took off from Edwards Air Force Base with the WaveRider attached and flew to 50,000 feet near Point Mugu. Once there, the B-52 dropped the aircraft and it fell like a bomb for about four seconds before its booster rocket engine ignited and propelled the aircraft.

It was then supposed to separate from the rocket and streak across the sky, powered by the air-breathing hypersonic engine, but the control-fin issue caused it to fail.

The Air Force said that "program officials will now begin the process of working through a rigorous evaluation to determine the exact cause of all factors at play."

One of the four WaveRider aircraft remains. But officials have not decided when ? or if ? that vehicle will be used.

Aerospace engineers say that developing technology capable of sustaining hypersonic speeds ? going five times the speed of sound or more ? is crucial to the next generation of missiles, military aircraft, spacecraft and even passenger planes.

But engineers have been trying to sustain hypersonic flight since the 1960s and have had few positive results.

One of the more recent attempts at hypersonic flight was in August 2011 when the Pentagon's research arm, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, carried out a test flight of an arrowhead-shaped unmanned aircraft, dubbed Falcon Hypersonic Technology Vehicle 2.

It's designed to travel in excess of 20 times the speed of sound. The launch had received worldwide attention and much fanfare. But minutes into the flight, searing heat from high speeds caused portions of the Falcon's skin to peel from the aerostructure, and the flight ended prematurely.

The Pentagon said it has spent as much as $2 billion over the last 10 years on hypersonic technologies and supporting engineering. The Pentagon is funding six major hypersonic technology programs.

Work on the WaveRider was done by Boeing Co.'s research center in Huntington Beach and Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne in Canoga Park. The program cost an estimated $140 million, according to Globalsecurity.org, a website for military policy research.

But that number doesn't include classified money and other additional funds, said John Pike, director of Globalsecurity.org. He also noted that the WaveRider program is years behind schedule.

Pike attributes some of the WaveRider's problems to the fact that there aren't wind tunnels that can simulate the conditions in which the aircraft will fly. So the engineers are finding out what's wrong with the plane the old-fashioned way: by flying it.

"They have to go out there and make mistakes and then learn from those mistakes," he said. "Evidently, going Mach 6 is hard to do."

Still the Pentagon wants to prove the concept and will most likely attempt a fourth flight with the last remaining WaveRider, Pike said.

"I'm sure they'll take whatever they think they learned from this flight and have another go-round."
