That?s why we suggest that you just go mini ? mini hot-dogs, pizzas and single serve snacks like nachos are a great alternative to packing on the pounds with the super-size original.

2. Substitutions

And all this time you?ve been focusing on touchdowns and interceptions when the real game playing takes place with the substitutions! When entertaining during football season it?s always pretty essential to have a hearty dip to serve with your chips and crackers. Try using substitutions like greek yogurt for sour cream or just scrap the empty calories and go with a more nutritionally packed alternative like a guacamole or bean dip.

3. Give Options!

Remember that no matter whether it is your cheat day, someone in your crowd is likely to be cutting back on the calories. Always offer low cal, high nutrient options such as veggies and dip or healthier dips like salsa or hummus.

SouleMama: Tell us about your background. What path led you to the work you do today?

Kathy:?I use to pour my creative energy into two Etsy shops;? one selling handspun yarn and the other handmade clothing and sewing patterns. But after a few years I began feeling creatively burnt out. I wanted to hoard all that craftiness for my personal projects instead. I brainstormed, and then hired a career coach, to find a path that could connect me with other mamas wanting to embrace more creativity and self-expression in their busy days and share my passion for a more slowed down and simplified approach to parenting and childhood. That's when I decided to become trained as a Simplicity Parenting leader and get certified as a creativity coach.?

?SouleMama: What does a typical day of work look like for you?

Kathy:?I get to bed early so that when I hear our rooster, Gilgamesh, start to crow; five or six o'clock or so, I'm as fresh as a daisy and raring to great the day.? I immediately make myself a latte, enjoying the stillness of a still sleeping house, and sit down to check on email and explore my favorite blogs. When the latte's all gone I begin to shift my focus to more work-related tasks. At eight o'clock I go milk Daisy, our Dexter cow, and usually find the kids are at the table eating breakfast by the time I come in.

I only take on five coaching clients at a time and these calls occur in the early morning, the day the babysitter is scheduled to come by,? or a lunch hour or early evening when my husband Craig can mind the kids.

Other than that I get a bulk of my work done on Saturdays when Craig and the kids go out on some kind of daddy-flavoured adventure; rock climbing, exploring the nature park or taking the garbage to the dump. Sundays I try to stay away from this glowy screen altogether and play alongside Fun Dad!

SouleMama: What inspired you to start your business?

Kathy:?As a first time mom I felt very protective of my sensitive crystal child and felt more comfortable staying close to home, keeping our surroundings uncluttered and protecting ourselves from vulgar noises and images (ie the television). Everything pushed upon us from society and media just felt like too much, too fast and too soon. So it was with great relief I read?Simplicity Parenting?and was able to read another person's beautifully worded, and researched, reasoning behind my intuitive hunches.?

Embracing these principles I observed how unscheduled time and open-ended toys births forth hours of deep play. And with the quiet humming of kids hard at work being imaginative and self-entertaining I relish in the side benefit of time for me to engage in personal creative pursuits; an important aspect of my self-care regimen.

I decided to become a Simplicity Parenting Leader to spread the these principles that can bring focus back on the sacredness of childhood and the importance of protecting it from societal pressures to speed up and consume more. There have been so many breakthroughs in my workshops ~ big ones like family's downsizing and moving into smaller homes; to small ones like a child finally sleeping more peacefully through the night.? It's powerful how such small changes can bring so much connection and richness to our lives?and a peaceful, oasis quality to our homes.?

SouleMama: Is there a special place that inspires you?

Kathy:?The town we live in is a special place that inspires me. We're nestled in a little valley so I wake up each morning with the sensation that I'm being hugged by tree-filled mountains. Survey finds US competitiveness sliding

LONDON (AP) ? The United States has fallen in the global economic competitive stakes for the fourth year running, according to an annual survey from the World Economic Forum.

Though the world's largest economy has become more competitive partly through its continued status as a global innovation powerhouse, the Forum says Wednesday the U.S.'s ranking has dropped two places to seventh. The survey finds there is low public trust in politicians, just two months before the presidential election.

Switzerland tops the overall rankings in the The Global Competitiveness Report 2012-13 for the fourth consecutive year, followed by Singapore.

The Forum ranks a country's competitiveness according to factors such the state of its infrastructure and its ability to foster innovation.

Other northern European countries, such as Germany and the United Kingdom, also feature on the leaderboard, those in southern Europe continue to suffer from a host of economic problems.

I?ve said it many times before, but after coming back from Worldcon, I truly believe that we are in the midst of another Golden Age of short science fiction and fantasy. With that in mind, I just wanted to provide a post that lists some of the great magazines people can subscribe to in order to read outstanding stories every month, and sometimes every week, and even every day. The magazines are listed below with links to subscription information, and I?ve noted those to which I am a current subscriber.

Some of these magazines are free, some can be purchased individually or with a monthly subscription. Some work off of reader donations. I urge you to subscribe and support as many as you can. For the digital subscriptions I have (and they are all digital at this point), I think I pay about $10 or $12/month, which is less than the price of a movie ticket these days.

And the entertainment is far better than what you?d get in theaters.

US sending high-level business delegation to Cairo

WASHINGTON (AP) ? The Obama administration is sending to Cairo the largest ever U.S. trade delegation to the Arab world in a bid to help revitalize Egypt's economy and strengthen ties between the once ironclad allies, officials said Tuesday.

More than 100 American executives from some 50 companies will arrive in Egypt on Saturday. U.S. titans such as Boeing, The Coca-Cola Company, General Electric, Google, IBM and Microsoft will be represented over four days of meetings.

Egypt's economy has slumped since last year's revolution that toppled autocrat Hosni Mubarak. U.S.-Egyptian ties have suffered, too.

State Department spokesman Patrick Ventrell said the trip "will identify new business opportunities and partnerships for U.S. companies, express U.S. business confidence in Egypt and demonstrate a commitment to Egypt's long-term economic development."

With a population of more than 85 million, Egypt is by far the Arab world's biggest market. But two-way trade between the U.S. and Egypt totaled only $8.2 billion last year. U.S. trade with Germany, which has a similar- size population as Egypt, was $147.8 billion last year.

The delegation is part of an Obama administration effort to help countries undergoing democratic transitions as part of the Arab Spring.

The U.S. also has pledged $1 billion in debt relief for Egypt. Officials say they are working on making that money available for investment capital and job creation funds.
